Ministries

Ministry in the Catholic church is as old as the acts of the apostles, as new as the latest urgent needs arising out of events.

In this issue we spotlight an effort to provide low-income housing in South Central Los Angeles and then turn to two rural dioceses in the upper Midwest that are reaching out to Africa and to Palestinian Catholics in the Holy Land, linking communities for aid, evangelization, solidarity and renewal. Special report writer Patricia Lefevere also tells the story of Albert and Rebecca Ramirez, a Texas couple who have spent the dozen years of their marriage helping refugees around the world -- from Hanoi to Hong Kong to Sarajevo.
