dead. Now available is a powerful new biography A Life Poured Out, written by Fr. Jean-Jacques
Pérennès, a personal friend of Claverie as well as a fellow Dominican. The book has already
been published in French and Arabic, and is now available in English from Orbis.

Dutch Dominican's Booklet: THE CHURCH AND THE MINISTRY
In late August, the Dominicans in the Netherlands distributed a 38-page booklet, “The Church and The Ministry,” that proposed parishes in need of an ordained priest choose their own person to become the Mass presider.
The parish could then present such candidates -- “women or men, homo- or heterosexual, married or single”
-- to the local bishop to ask that they be ordained, according to the booklet.
If the bishop chooses not to ordain the candidate -- for example, because the person cannot meet the requirements of celibacy
-- then the elected candidate and the congregation could still feel assured that when they come together to “share bread and wine in prayer,” they are still receiving a real and valid Eucharist, the Dutch Dominicans’ Web site said.
Here is an English translation of the booklet: The Church and The Ministry.

Interview with Dominican Fr. Albert Nolan
“More and more people, and especially young people, have given up all the certainties of the past: religious certainties, scientific certainties, cultural certainties, political certainties and historical certainties,” wrote Dominican Fr. Albert Nolan in his book Jesus Today. This has left us with a great hunger for the spiritual and the religious, he tells Tom Fox. This could be a tremendous opportunity, he continues. “We have a whole new way of understanding the universe, and therefore, understanding ourselves, who we are and how we fit in that has great potential for the future ... However, at the same time, we are going headlong into more and more selfishness and individualism.” We are caught, he says, between chaos and promise. Nolan is the subject of the cover story in NCR July 20: Chaos and promise: Reinventing the church.
